AS3 Video Coverflow

AS3 Video Coverflow

Jun 6, 2009

So everyone likes the coverflow effect and everyone is using video these days.
I wanted to do this effect in AS3 and thought it would be nice to release it to everyone.
Its not polished or paticularly stunning (in fact its pretty plain), but its just an example of how to do it and some good code to get you started in the right direction. I don’t recommend this for people who are not familiar with flash or are beginners, just a caution – but its a great opportunity to learn!

ok, for all the people with thumbs resize problem - search for CoverFlowItem in the Library and just resize it!
  • Yeah this piece of code will require changes if you need a different size image or anything else.

In fact, I would consider this code not nearly good enough for just putting up on a site. It is more like example code to help people get started.

Hello Stephen! Thanks for the great work. I'm having two issues I hope you'll find the time to answer. First I can't find how to smooth the video. I added a fullscreen button and I know there's constant smoothing in vidPlayer.as, but I couldn't change it. I'm not that skilled in AS3... And second, I'm having trouble loading thumbs of different sizes. They are cropped and maintained in the position of the original thumbs. I can't change their size or position.

stephen, thanks for the great cover flow, i have used your as2 version in a project before but now I am using as3, is there an easy way to disable the video function of this one, i don't need links or any fancy stuff, just silky smooth cover flow for images...

The main.fla file will not open in Flash CS3. I've downloaded it a few times and still can't get it to open. There's no specific error message generated by Flash other than 'can't open the document'.
  • Its made in CS4, so you can download the CS4 trial and down save it to CS3 if you want.
  • Hi,

    I cant open it.

Can you send me the file in FLASH CS3? Thanks!
