HTML5 and Javascript are very powerful and could make the internet a lot more interactive and a lot more standardized. While Javascript is running faster and faster on browsers like Chrome and Firefox, its still got a ways to go to be as interactive as Flash. Check out some of the top HTML5 demos on the internet today.
