Our Methodology
Nearly 90 companies were involved in our search for the best email marketing service providers. We researched each provider thoroughly by investigating its services and reviewing features we deemed key, including pricing, ease of use, the platform's creation tools, contact management tools, segmentation tools, A/B split-testing features, analytics, deliverability and the company's customer service.
The list was then reduced by eliminating vendors who don't specialize or can't be reached online. We also eliminated vendors that did not have a good online reputation as determined by online reviews and the Better Business Bureau.
This brought down our list to 60. Our list was now reduced to 60.
When possible, we took advantage of the free trial or the free version. We created and sent emails using each platform, uploading contacts with both Outlook and Gmail addresses.
Each software program was rated based on its ease of use and whether it succeeded landing in our Gmail or Outlook inboxes. Some emails ended up in Gmail's spam folder, or under the promotions tab. We did not count these as negatives. Business email campaigns should be delivered to the person receiving them. We compared the sent version of the email to the original email to make sure there were no wild, unpleasant discrepancies. As part of our evaluation, we also considered how easy the programs are to use, whether you can create email campaigns from scratch, use a template or import a fully designed email.
We also evaluated the level of support that these email marketing companies provide. We visited various websites to assess the availability and quality of online help, such webinars or guides. You need to be able to access resources quickly, especially if you are a busy entrepreneur. Also, we wanted to assess the customer service provided by these companies. The small-business owners posed questions to each company about pricing and features. The speed with which we were able to get a reply and the quality of support received by the companies was what we evaluated.
