Aldi’s Corporate Headquarters issued a statement to respond to the rumors of Tasmanian hopefuls in 2019. It stated that they will not open stores in Tasmania or Hobart, and also denied any rumours. Aldi made no additional statements since then to confirm their original statement.
Aldi isn’t coming to Tasmania or Hobart, why?
Aldi never stated specifically why locations were not opened in Hobart.
First of all, Tasmania has a lower cost of living than Australia. Although some consumers still feel the prices are high, many supermarkets offer a wide range of products and options to help them find the best price.
Aldi is not a great market because of this.
The island’s small size could mean that it is difficult for people to locate suitable places. However, many other cities all over the globe are very built-up and there is no place for any new business except in cases where old buildings have to be demolished.
Aldi, according to their corporate website, is very particular about their markets. So perhaps, they wait until their market share has increased in other parts of Australia.

There are many lovely shops in Hobart.
Aldi may also be coming to Canada, Colorado and New Zealand.
Aldi admitted that they do not intend to open stores in Tasmania and Hobart. They also stated that the company has never amended their plans.
The international growth of German grocery stores has been phenomenal in the past five to three years. So, when it’s right, Tasmanians will be able to expect an Aldi store.
