NFC (near-field communication) makes contactless payment easy and secure.
Apple, like many other companies, relies on NFC to enable their Apple Pay technology. iPhone users can pay in cash or online through their Apple Wallet.
Is Apple Pay accepted by the USPS? Below is the answer to your question – you may be surprised.
Are USPS to Accept Apple Pay by 2022
The United States Postal Service doesn’t accept Apple Pay nor any other form of NFC payment online. Customers are restricted to cash or credit cards as payment options. The current cards readers have NFC technology, however USPS does not allow that technology to be activated.
Why isn’t USPS accepting Apple Pay?
USPS has yet to issue a formal statement explaining why Apple Pay is not accepted by them, but some Redditors believe so.
USPS does indeed have access to the sensitive information of many millions of people. Furthermore, USPS as a federal organization would require strict regulation.
This is why many post office locations refuse to accept NFC technology such as Apple Pay.
It also works out because my local postoffice’s credit cards machines processed simple debit card transactions extremely slowly, despite them being equipped for Apple Pay and NFC.

Does USPS Take Samsung Pay?
Strangely, even though Apple Pay is not accepted at post offices, they accept Samsung Pay or Google Pay.
Customers have also reported seeing more current kiosks at their post offices. Samsung Pay customers who have one of these cards linked to their accounts and allowed to use it have seen their numbers increase.
While it appears that the vast majority of post offices do not offer contactless pay, some do.
Apple Pay does not currently work in these stores. Rather, Samsung phone users can pay with Samsung Pay.
It appears that clerks get caught unawares when Samsung Pay functions.
One Redditor did comment that they had to enter their PIN and sign.
While the NFC does work, technically it is not 100% contactless. This is because the pin pad must be used and the pen.
One commenter also encountered resistance from another when they tried contactless payments. A manager said that the policy was not to take any other payment methods than those offered by smartphones.
Perhaps they forgot to turn off NFC at their location.
PayPal allows you to pay the USPS
In June 2012 USPS and PayPal announced that customers would be able to check out online using PayPal.
The payment method is available only online, using USPS’s Click-N-Ship service.
Customers love this feature as it allows them to transfer funds without having to carry their credit cards.
PayPal can be used to make payments without having your card information entered into the USPS website.
It was an easy way for customers to pay for goods or services, since many online store owners use PayPal.
