How can you get the USPS to deliver at your door?
Some Americans find that getting mail is difficult or impossible because of their mobility impairments.
There are a few steps you need to take to ensure that USPS delivers mail and parcels to your doorstep on a consistent basis.
You might find a mailbox which is located across the busy street on the opposite side from your house. This could be helpful for someone who uses a wheelchair.
This could include someone with chronic, debilitating pain who lives in an apartment on ground floor that has a central mail center.
Not only do you need to submit the request, but you also must have an authorization note from your physician.
You can also find the USPS website “…you must write a request for this change” So make sure to include your personal statement attesting that you need door delivery.
These documents should be gathered together and sent to the postal service that will deliver it.
Call to inquire if you are unable to locate the nearest post office that delivers mail in your area.
You can also try sending an email, but that will take longer to get a response.
Once the documents have been sent in, you’ll just wait to hear back. Each individual post office makes the decision for the households on its route.
However, it’s possible for someone to refuse your request, even though you may be ill or have disabilities.
If you are able to access the mail, this would apply.
If you believe that the USPS should be making an exception for your case and can provide proof, then you have every right to contact them and present your arguments.

USPS will only issue hardship shipping if you have an established illness or handicap.

However, if there isn’t room, and your mailbox is out near the street or across the street, there is a good chance the mail carrier will bring it to your front door (or porch, or stoop, etc. ).
It’s not only an inconvenience, it is also preventative.
Your chances of retrieving your package are higher, and there will be fewer problems for the postal service.
Carriers will locate the best place to put it in an apartment or neighbourhood with centralized mailbox areas.
Also, passersby will be more likely to abandon mailboxes in the foyer if they see them inside.
Mail carriers can make best judgments when there’s more than one mailbox, for example, in a park or outside. You might have to bring packages one by one.
One caveat, however, to having the package left at your door is if the delivery requires a signature.
Signature-required items can’t be left unattended in mailboxes.
The carrier will take those items back to the postoffice. They will also leave a note that they tried to get a signature, but nobody was there.
