USPS is one of the largest shipping distributors in the country, and it offers a myriad of choices when it comes to shipping and receiving mail. You can also use a PObox to get mail, even if your home is not available.
What is the USPS PO Box Price in 2022?
USPS PO boxes cost based on location, weight, and period. Prices for the smallest USPS PO Box range between $13 to $44 for a 3-month period of payment and $21 to $75 for 6 months. While the highest priced box costs $64-$360 in three-months and $109-$625 six months respectively, prices for larger boxes range from $64 to $560 for three months up through $109-$625 six months.
What Factors Influence the USPS PO Box Price?
USPS PO boxes are priced based on their size, location, and length. There may be fees associated with renting a USPS POBox.
However, location of the PObox is one of most important factors determining the price.
Additionally, the fees for “competitive” post offices tend to be higher.
But, these PO boxes are known to offer additional services like longer hours of access and electronic notifications when you have mail.
When renting a USPSPO box, another important factor is its size.
For example, most PO boxes are about 15” deep and typically are offered in five sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, and extra-large.
It is important to consider which mail you want to receive before you choose the size and location of the PO Box to Rent.
This means that a smaller PO box, measuring 3” x5.5″‘ in diameter, can be used to house 10-15 letters or two folded magazines.
These small PO boxes may be slightly larger than the extra-small boxes. At 5”x5.5″ in size, they can hold up to 15 letters as well as five magazines rolled up.
On top of that, medium PO boxes are 5.5” x11” in size and are perfect for large envelopes, and allow magazines to be stacked flat rather than rolled.
The next option is large PO boxes. These boxes measure 11x11x11 inches and can hold up to two boxes of shoes, while holding space for approximately 15 letters.
The last option is extra-large postal boxes. These are great options if multiple large items are to be received along regular mail.
But, these extra-large boxes have dimensions 12’x22.5′ but can also hold flat rate USPS packages and other parcels.
You must also consider the length of the payments period to determine the price for your PO box.
The payment period, for instance, is the time that you plan to rent the PO box.
A longer payment term will generally result in a lower monthly cost than a shorter payment.
Most post offices will offer payment terms of 3 to 6 months. Some offer a 12-month option.
If you are looking to get the best price on your POBox, then it is a smart move to choose the extended payment period. This will allow you to make savings.

How to Get a USPS Po Box
If you’re looking to rent a USPS PO box, you have a few options available to you.
You have the option to either register online for a PObox or go to your local post office.
You can order your USPS PO box online by visiting the PO box webpage. Select a place and size to get your PO box.
If the location you’re looking at has the size of the PO box you selected available, it will prompt you to reserve the box. If not, the box will prompt you to reserve it.
A waitlist prompt may be displayed. You have two options: move to another area or use a smaller PO box, in which case you might find something better.
However, if your mind is set on this specific location/box you can complete all information to be put on the waitlist.
Once your PO boxes become available, after waiting lists have ended, the post office will notify you by phone or text that they are now open.
After the deadline, you have two business days to place your order before the box is handed to the next customer.
Once you submit your forms, it will take 30 days for you to confirm your identity.
Be sure to have your 1093 Form and acceptable ID printed.
Simply print out the 1093 Form online to reserve a PO box. Once completed, you can bring two pieces of valid ID with you to the post office.
You can find information on what types of ID are acceptable for renting a USPS PO Box here.
You can read more about whether USPS ships to PO boxes and how quickly expedited shipping is. Also, we have posts that explain if USPS tracks your shipment.
USPS prices a PO box based on the size and whereabouts of the box, as well as how long the box is to be rented. This is also known by the “payment period”.
Furthermore, PO box prices increase as the size and desirability of the location increase but decrease the more prolonged the payment period is.
You can still apply online for a PO Box by filling in PS Form 1093.
Two forms of acceptable ID must be presented to the post office when applying to rent an PO box.
