Taylormade Spider Putter Review & For Sale
Taylormade Spider X Putter Verdict
Having been sold on the looks as soon as I saw it, I was sold again on the performance of the Spider X. Excellent roll, particularly on shorter range putts. You get the same sense of “can’t missed” that you get from larger Spider models.
It will be more popular if you are putting longer shots. The more compact weights on the back of the model give the ball a better balance, as well as a smaller shape than other Spiders.
This TaylorMade insert has a much better sound and feel than any other. Although it took them more than a decade to get there, I believe they have finally gotten the inserts right.
The black on white line design on the crown is very easy to use and combines form with function. The simpler, single-line design is an alternative if you are not interested in this style.
Spider X’s only problem is its price. But, once in a while, I do not care. It looks great and has easy alignment. I’m willing to spend a lot for something like this.

Taylormade’s Spider XPutter is optimized from every angle with a smaller head, thinner insert and a Y-Shaped sightline.
TaylorMade invented the Spider putter in ten years. They didn’t pay much attention to the appearance of the model at that time. The technology was not yet advanced enough for them to prove its superior performance (with irons and drivers, it showed improvements on launch monitors).
Spider trickled out and the company tied pro’s to 10 or 11 club contracts, not including a putter. Jason Day, who was granted a Spider red paint job to make his world record in 2016, made that trickle into an outpouring. It say TaylorMade catapulted the model to being the most played putter at stacks of PGA Tour events over the last two years. The brand believes it’s time to release a brand-new Spider X after such success, and more Spider putters playing than ever.
Spider X Putters – Key Features
The X Philosophy – True Path Alignment System The genesis of the Spider X philosophy lies in research derived from more than ten thousand putts from a distance of twelve feet, with results illustrating that golfers strike the ball toward the toe of the putter 66% of the time – this is the result of a parallax effect. Engineers set out to redesign the mass properties and introduce a True Path alignment system. This will allow for more alignment, enhanced focus, and reduce the parallax effect.
The New 2021… A Spider X Hydro Blast is New For 2021
Taylor. Made Spider X’s putter has been the top-selling model for the franchise. This model delivers proven results at all levels of the game. On Tour, it has accounted for 11 victories over the last two-plus seasons (including the start of the 2020-21 season) while also producing record-setting numbers at retail.
Spider X Hydro Blast is a continuation of the tradition of great success. It features a brand new colourway, finishing technique and a completely different finish. In a rich, silver-coloured colourway, the high-pressure spraying of water on aluminium results in an extremely smooth and premium look. Added durability is a byproduct of this process, as the absence of paint means no surface blemishes related to chipping and greater scratch resistance.
The Spider X Hydro Blast maintains the same advanced multi-material construction as the original Spider X, relying on a combination of aluminium (2g), steel (6g) and tungsten (12g) weights along with a composite centre to optimise MOI and stability.
Tour-proven True Path design assists in alignment. White TPU Pure roll is also an advantage. TM insert delivers a soft feel and 45deg grooves encourage better forward roll as well as improved sound, feel and overall roll characteristics compared to a solid face.
The stock options include lengths of 33″, 34″ and35″.
It comes equipped with the KBS Chrome C-Taper Stepless shaft and Super Stroke Pistol GTR 1.0 grip as stock.

Is it a good feeling?
Taylor. Made, the Spider Tour Black-Red retail version of the Spider Tour Black has different feel via different inserts. The Black version has a metallic Pure Roll insert which has a more solid click to it than the Red counterpart. The center may feel slightly hollower if you strike it further away. Due to the fact that feel can be subjective, and every person will have their preferred preferences, Spider Tour Black might not appeal everyone. Taylor is a perfect example of this. Made has alternative options.
The head has a big footprint, which makes it seem like there is too much to do. The weight of 355 grams is nicely balanced, and it swings very well.
Who It’S Best For/Not For?
The first thing I would say is that this putter isn’t for someone who’s tight on a budget. It is the priciest option and one that should only be used if your golf game requires it.
A second thing that I would recommend is it being best for somebody who doesn’t need a lot of alignment assistance while they are putting. It’s not recommended if you heavily depend on the alignment lines that a lot putters use. Just my opinion.
This putter was the most comfortable I tested. It has a slight bend or arc when I am putting. If you putt like that, you’d probably like it too.
Does The Taylormade Spider X Face Look Balanced?
Taylormade Spider X also has a face-balanced version. But most professionals choose the slightly arc version. This has a 30° hang. You can see the images below to help determine which version you are using.
Standard Spider X Standard Neck with 30° Toe Hang. You should pay particular attention to your hosel. This version is what most pros use (eg Rory Mcilroy or Jason Day), Jon Rahm, Matthew Wolff, etc.
Spider X Face Balanced Single Bend Spider X As you can see, the Spider X Face Balanced has a different hosel which connects the shaft and the putter head. Personally, I like the look and feel the toe hanging version.

Should You Get The 34 Inch Version Or The 35 Inch Version?
My theory is that many people putters are too long for their height. Below is what my personal rule for selecting the appropriate shaft length.
Take the 34 inch option if your height is less than 6 feet.
The 35-inch version is recommended for those who are 6 feet or more.
I’m 5 foot 10, and opted for the 34 inch version. I find it much easier to achieve a balanced position at address with the shorter version. I find it easier to adjust my posture and spine properly. The weight of the club is also more balanced. It was a good decision.
It’s obvious that if you have been using a 35″ putter for your entire life and feel it’s too extreme to switch to the shorter version of the putter, keep going with what you already know.
